White Horses was inspired by a trip we took to Cornwall in England recently. Cornwall is located in the South West corner of England and looks out over the Atlantic Ocean. The terrain is rugged, with a coastline that just takes your breath away.
Far below us the Atlantic Ocean crashes on the rocks, each wave ending its long journey in sunburst style.
As the waves approach the shore line, the crest is filled with an animated white foam which sprays backwards, like a horses mane, as the off-shore wind tries desperately to protect the shore. These are the White Horses................
WOODEN HILL
Wooden Hill is a tender song about those special moments with tiny children snuggled on your lap at bedtime. When Mike was a small child his mother (Vicky) would say " come on up the Wooden Hill and down White Sheet Lane" when it was time to go to bed. In turn Mike would say the same to Matthew, then Steve and finally Becky. Handed down, through generations Wooden Hill will live forever.........................................
Rocking Chair was inspired by listening to the local country radio station, on the way home one evening. The song about a Grandad, was pretty predictable in both lyrics and melody. I was suddenly struck by an overwhealming feeling of sadness as I remembered that I could not recall my Grandads as they had passed on when I was very small. Karen and I decided that we should write a warming song about the Grandad that you did not know but his memory and his spirit lingers with the "old rocking chair whose paint is worn and bare".
